Damià Vericat is a fluvial geomorphologist. He obtained his PhD on June 2005 (Department of Environment and Soil Sciences, University of Lleida). After the PhD he worked as a Postdoctoral Research at the Forest and Technology Centre of Catalonia (Spain), and the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences (Aberystwyth University, UK).  In March 2009 he obtained a José Castillejo Fellowship (funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation) to undertake a research stay of 5 months in the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research -NIWA- (New Zealand). In the same year he also obtained a Juan de la Cierva Fellow, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Between 2009 and 2011 he worked at the Forest and Technology Centre of Catalonia (Spain). Finally, in March 2011 he obtained a Ramon y Cajal Fellowship funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and joined the University of Lleida where is currently working.

Dr. Vericat’s research includes monitoring and modelling of fluvial dynamics, with special emphasis on sediment transport and associated geomorphic processes (e.g. morpho-sedimentary processes in river channels). His research extends to eco-geomorphology (e.g. interactions between macroinvertebrate drift, sediment transport and bed disturbance), to remote-sensing of gravel bed rivers (e.g. High Resolution Topography and Geomorphic Change Detection), and to sediment and water management in regulated rivers (e.g. evaluation the effects of  flushing flows in impounded rivers).
